From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
